It’s after the birthday party, when calmness returns, that my kids revisit their birthday cards. The cards, still out from the party because I haven’t finished cleaning up, capture their attention with goofy pop-ups, silly sounds, and heartfelt messages inside.

There’s something special about watching them revisit their cards, witnessing the warmth of the messages light up their faces. Whether you’re crafting a birthday invite message for a toddler or a tween, for a first birthday or a 21st, we’re here to help you compose a birthday greeting that will brighten any child’s day.

A birthday card is an opportunity to cheer them on or make them laugh, keeping their age in mind. From 1 to 21, toddler to tween, we present ideas for a birthday message suited to every age and stage. Click any of the buttons below to go directly to that section!

Toddler Birthday Wishes

  • Love the way you’re you.
  • Wow! You’re getting so big! Happy 2nd Birthday!
  • Cute and loved. What a combo!
  • Your smile shines brighter than all of the cake candles.
  • Have a trash truck full of fun! (Or a trainload of excitement!)
  • I can tell you’re 3 because of all the great things you can do now!
  • You make me smile.
  • Who’s 2? Hey, it’s you!
  • Wow, look who’s a big kid now!
  • Tip: For young children, a picture is worth a thousand words, and they will not criticise your artistic abilities. To express your love for them, draw a funny sketch—a fast flower or perhaps a heart.

Birthday Wishes for Tweens

  • Have an entire day as wonderful as you are.
  • It’s so exciting seeing who you’re becoming.
  • I love seeing you develop into such a fantastic person!
  • Happy birthday to one of my favourite 11-year-olds!
  • I hope your birthday is worth the wait and your entire year is fantastic!
  • Enjoy this sweet age while it lasts! (Just kidding! Kind of.)
  • Yay for Birthday You!
  • I hope your day is “awesome.”
  • HBD2U! (See? I’m not so uncool after all.)

1st Birthday Wishes

  • One year wonderful!
  • ONE = FUN
  • ONE of a kind!
  • ONE heck of a birthday baby!
  • You’re ONE amazing kid!
  • ONEdering what to get you!
  • Discover what it’s like to be ONEderful like you!
  • You’re 1! How fun!
  • You’re #1!
  • ONE day, the cutest baby in all the land turned ONE!
  • Welcome, little one

Closing Messages for Kids

You can end with a witty quip or a quick message of affection. Simply match the tone of your closing to that of the card.

  • I’m always here for you, [Grandma Judy]
  • Your favorite uncle, [Dale]
  • Love you, little guy/gal
  • Sending you smiles,
  • I’m so proud of you, [Name].
  • Hugs,
  • Warmly,
  • To the moon and back,
  • Fist bumps from afar,
  • Peace out,
  • TTYL,

And with that, we’ll sign off! We hope you’ve found the perfect message for your kid’s birthday card, whether it’s a milestone birthday or just another year of wonderful growth. Bookmark this post and return whenever you need big or little kid birthday message inspiration.
