The cottage design language is considered one of the finest and one of the easiest styles to execute. The design language stands out because of its unique aesthetics and because it strikes the right balance between luxury and rustic elements. The cottage design style initially took inspiration from 19th-century English cottages. But over the period of time, the design language started picking up elements from other cottage-styled design languages too, including coastal cottage, rustic cottage, French cottage, modern cottage and so on.

Though the cottage design styles have a fair share of differences and similarities, the essence is eventually the same. The idea is to create a cosy space that is warm and inviting with rustic elements that are either new or repurposed. Lighting is one of the elements that play an important role in giving an actual look and feel to the cottage design style. Take a look at how you can play with the elements to create a gorgeous cottage-style decor.

#1 The Colour Palette: This is one of the most essential and easiest elements to execute. The cottage colour palette isn’t extensive and focuses on keeping the space light. The colour palette includes warm neutral tones and light natural colours. When it comes to warm neutrals, you can use creams, whites, pastels and similar shades for your furnishings, decor and lighting designs. You can use accent colours like soft blues, greens, corals and yellows to create the backdrop and complement the scene.

#2 Lighting designs to choose: The lighting designs must be chosen mindfully based on their build and the elements. We’ve already told you that natural elements lend a beautiful aura to your cottage decor. Our recommendation would be going with antique gold table lamps, or similar antique-styled lighting designs. You can also choose to add floor lamps with a wooden, iron finish along with fabric shades.

#3 Decor: Apart from the lighting and the colour palette, there are other elements that should be rightly placed too. Ensure that you use patterns and prints for your cottage style decor. Use stripes, florals, plaid, toile, gingham and similar English patterns to add the flavour to your space. Apart from those, you can also consider placing mirrors, airy textiles, pillows, curtains beadboards, cosy throws, woven materials, plants and rugs across the room and somewhere around the lighting designs to accentuate the ambience.
