There a vast selection of cars under 8 lakh in India that cater to your preference for luxury, driveability, transmission or seating capacity – plus other factors. When making your decision it’s important to take into account factors like fuel economy and maintenance costs as well as your budget.

When shopping for a car under 8 lakhs, we suggest choosing a fuel efficient hatchback. This model is ideal for city driving conditions as it has light steering which makes navigating traffic easier.

Volkswagen Polo

The Volkswagen Polo is an impressive German hatchback that provides superior driving dynamics, handling and ride quality. It makes an ideal choice for small family car users who require plenty of room for all passengers – particularly the taller ones.

The Polo is offered with a selection of trims and engine options, both petrol and diesel. The 1.2-litre TSI engine produces peak power of 76PS and peak torque of 95Nm when coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox.

The mid-range Style trim of the VW Polo adds some fashionable design elements, like 16″ alloy wheels, ambient interior lighting and eye-catching Matrix LED headlights. Other features like dual zone climate control, front seat lumbar support, adaptive cruise control and parking sensors are also included.

Hyundai Aura

The Hyundai Aura is a sub-4m sedan equipped with an array of features and equipment. It boasts an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, height-adjustable driver seats and cruise control for added peace of mind.

Moreover, the Aura facelift comes equipped with a variety of safety features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, impact-sensing door unlock and ISOFIX child seat anchors as standard equipment. It comes in several variants such as SX (O) and SX Plus; some even get a rear parking camera or day-night IRVM.

The Aura comes in an array of colours, such as Fiery Red, Polar White, Typhoon Silver, Titan Grey and Vintage Brown. Inside you’ll find copper-coloured inserts and a honeycomb-like design giving it a distinctive aesthetic.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Maruti Suzuki has a proud legacy in the compact sedan segment, and their Dzire model continues to be one of their finest offerings.

The Dzire boasts a number of features not often seen in its class. It includes a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, an interactive multi-information display, keyless entry with push button start, and more.

It also comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. Other safety components include seat belt warnings, speed sensing door locks, child seat anchorages, and an anti-theft engine immobilizer.

Its 1.2L petrol engine generates 120PS of power and 114Nm of torque, which are impressive numbers for its class. This makes it a great option for city driving duties.

Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon is the Indian company’s first entry into the compact crossover SUV segment, launched in 2017 and quickly becoming one of India’s best-selling vehicles.

It comes equipped with a host of features, such as its seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital instrument cluster, voice commands, cooled glove box, automatic AC, rain sensing wipers and cruise control. Plus it gets ventilated front seats, air purifier and auto-dimming IRVM (inside rearview mirror).

It comes in eight broad trims–XE, XM (S), XM+(S), XZ+, XZ+ (HS) and XZA+(P), all powered by either petrol or diesel engines and offered with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
