Fishin’ Frenzy is known the across industry for being one of the most iconic slot games ever created. The game has been expanded for over a decade since it was first released in 2014, introducing some well-recognised titles with a variety of mechanics, including Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways.

The game was crafted by the massive game developers, Blueprint Gaming, who have worked on the series for many years, producing this franchise and taking it to the levels of popularity it has today. In the following, we will be looking at the success of Fishin’ Frenzy from their first ever game to their most popular, and their most recent release, as well as taking a look at why the game has grown to the heights it is at today.

The Beginnings

The first-ever Fishin’ Frenzy game is now looked at as one of the most iconic titles in the series, if not the online casino industry as a whole, beginning what is now known as arguably the biggest slot franchise. The game itself was released in 2014 and takes on a relatively basic and simple format. Despite being one of the biggest games on the market, the gameplay is easy to grasp, with a simple 5×3 playtable structure and an available 10 individual paylines.

The bonus features are also extremely limited, with only a couple of available as players navigate through the title. One of the main bonuses in the base game is the Scatter symbol that unlocks 10, 15 or 20 free spins if 3, 4 or 5 of the relevant symbols land in the playtable simultaneously. The second bonus is a fisherman symbol that can collect all fish values in the table, adding an extra way to unlock values other than the paylines.

The visuals are also relatively simplistic, featuring an animated, underwater background, visualising a sea bed and the water’s surface. The playtable is a light blue colour, with the fish-inspired symbols standing out against it. The symbols all follow the theme, with bright colours and fishing-related imagery representing the set values. Overall, the slot game doesn’t possess a great deal of development and holds very basic mechanics; however, this is a style of slot that is preferred by a lot of players, potentially the reason why it performed so well upon its release.

The Most Popular

Fishin’ Frenzy Even Bigger Catch is perceived online as the most popular in the series, adding new elements to the popular fishing-themed slot game. It maintains the classic and simplistic slot mechanics that made the original game so popular, while adding to the bonus features and developing the gameplay experience. The standard mechanics of the original game are implemented in this one, with a 5×3 playtable and 10 individual paylines available.

Much like the original, the bonus features remain limited, but provide more detail than the first instalment. Free spins are still available to be unlocked in the base game, but this game mode is what separates it from the others in the series. The fisherman symbol acts as a wild and a collect symbol, with multipliers able to be unlocked in a selection round. The gameplay is maintained in the same way, with simplistic gameplay features, slightly elevated from the previous extremely popular titles.

The design remains exactly the same as the original release as a result of the success being down to the simplistic nature and easy-to-understand visuals. Everything from the background, to the symbols, and the main character is all the same, showing that Blueprint followed an already successful formula, elevating it with new bonuses to make an even more dominant title in the series. The game is set up to be a more developed version of the already incredibly popular first release of Fishin’ Frenzy, which is exactly why it is the most popular game in the series.

The Most Recent

A decade after the original was released, Fishin’ Frenzy Bubble Bonanza was introduced to the market. Similar to the majority of the games in the series, the aesthetic and design remained almost identical to the first release, with a few of the symbols reimagined in a more modern art style and design. The background is entirely the same, but what makes the game different is the mechanics.

The playtable and paylines remain exactly the same, with a 5×3 playtable holding 10 individual paylines. However, the main difference is the bonus features. A wheel feature is implemented into this title, contrasting the previously simple and refined features, as well as the Bubble Bonanza bonus game, another game mode that contrasts massively with the very basic original release.

Both game modes are unique to the Fishin’ Frenzy series, something that massively contrasts with the original. But it is clear to see that while Fishin’ Frenzy has stuck to its roots, it has developed with time, adding new bonus features and altering the mechanics to better suit modern-day players.

To Conclude…

Fishin’ Frenzy is most definitely one of the biggest and most popular franchises in the industry, and it is clear to see why. The game has never really strayed away from what made it the game it is today, maintaining the design and only slightly altering the new releases with bonus features unique to that instalment. Despite it being over 10 years since the original was introduced, Fishin’ Frenzy games are still being developed and produced, showing no sign of slowing down in popularity.
