Nearly 2 million people underwent liposuction last year. That number has been growing steadily over the years as more people learn about how the procedure can change their self-images and, by extension, their lives. If you’re considering liposuction, though, it’s important to properly prepare beforehand. Doing so can ensure a safe, successful procedure and satisfactory results. Consider the following measures to help you get ready for this type of procedure.

Consultations

First of all, you’ll need to consult with cosmetic surgeons to find one that dovetails with your needs and expectations. Conduct extensive research to find board-certified plastic surgeons in your area who have ample experience in liposuction. Schedule appointments with various cosmetic surgeons to discuss your goals, concerns, medical history, and other important aspects. Choose one you feel comfortable with who has the proper qualifications. It’s also important to choose a cosmetic surgeon who has state-of-the-art equipment, like custom made precision tools.

Understand the Liposuction Procedure

From there, be sure you understand what’s involved in liposuction. This procedure is designed to remove excess fat from specific areas of the body. Surgeons insert thin plastic tubes into the body through small incisions and use them to break up and suction out fat deposits. It’s not a weight loss procedure; it aids in recontouring areas where stubborn fat deposits seem to linger despite diet and exercise.

Although liposuction yields immediate results, you may have a bit of swelling and discomfort after the procedure. Certain risks also exist, such as infection, changes in skin sensation, and uneven results. Racanelli can help minimize the risks and ensure satisfactory results.

Lifestyle Adjustments

After finding the right cosmetic surgeon and ensuring you’re a good candidate for liposuction, you may need to make certain lifestyle adjustments to get ready for the procedure. That includes eating a healthy, nutrient-rich diet to boost your immune system and foster healing after the procedure. Cutting cigarettes and alcohol out of your lifestyle is also recommended as both can interfere with healing. Some supplements and medications may need to be avoided as well. Follow any specific preoperative instructions your plastic surgeon gives you, too.

Mental Preparation

Being mentally prepared for liposuction is also essential. Be sure you have realistic expectations about the results of the procedure. Understand that there may be some swelling, bruising, and discomfort immediately after the procedure. In addition to causing discomfort, those symptoms could make the actual results of the procedure appear less obvious. As you heal, though, the discomfort will subside, and the true impact of the procedure will be more obvious.

Also, remember that certain postoperative measures will be required. You’ll need to avoid heavy lifting and rigorous exercise for a time after the procedure. Your plastic surgeon will give you instructions regarding wound care, medication, compression garments, and other factors that could come into play. You may need extra help with some activities for a few days after liposuction as well.

Being Fully Prepared for Liposuction

Being fully prepared for liposuction requires both physical and mental measures. Keep the points mentioned here in mind, and don’t hesitate to speak to your plastic surgeon about additional questions and concerns you may have. With proper preparation, you’ll set yourself up for a smooth, successful procedure and recovery as well as the results you’re looking for.
