Hunter Schafer is a 20-year-old transgender actress and model who made her runway debut at Prada’s Fall/Winter 2019 show. Schafer, who identifies as nonbinary and uses the pronouns they/them, said they were “honored” to be cast in the show. You might have seen their photographs in magazines like Vogue and W or in ads for brands like Gucci and Calvin Klein.

Hunter Schafer’s Early Life and Education

Hunter Schafer was born on June 5, 1998, in Raleigh, North Carolina. She is the daughter of two lawyers and has an older sister. Hunter has always been interested in the arts and started her training at the age of three, when she began studying classical ballet.

Hunter attended The North Carolina School of the Arts, where she studied acting. She then transferred to the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where she majored in photography. While attending SVA, Hunter began to explore transgender identity and issues around gender and sexuality. It was during this time that she also first began to model.

Hunter Schafer’s Acting Career Before Euphoria

You may know Hunter Schafer as the transgender teenager on the HBO series Euphoria. But what you may not know is that Hunter is a professional actor who has been working in the industry for years.

Hunter first got her start in acting as a model. At the age of six, she was spotted by a modeling agent in a grocery store and was quickly signed to a contract. From there, she began working in commercials and print ads.

It wasn’t until she was fourteen that Hunter decided to transition and begin her acting career as a transgender woman. She made her debut in the short film The Trans List, which aired on HBO. Since then, she has appeared in several films and TV shows, including Euphoria, Jay Leno’s Garage and NCIS: Los Angeles.

Hunter Schafer’s Modeling Career

Hunter Schafer is a fashion model and artist who first came to prominence after being featured in the Teen Vogue article, ” Generation Z’s Top Models ” at the age of 17.

Hunter has always been interested in fashion and started modeling at a young age, but it was when she was featured in the Teen Vogue article that her career really took off. Hunter has since been featured in magazines like Harper’s Bazaar and W, and has walked the runway for some of the biggest names in fashion, like Carolina Herrera and Marc Jacobs.

Hunter is also an artist and often posts her artwork on Instagram. Her work reflects her transgender identity and explores transgender beauty standards.

Hunter Schafer’s Activism and Social Justice Work

Before Hunter Schafer embraced acting, modeling and social media stardom, she was a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. As a high school student in North Carolina, she fought against her state’s so-called “bathroom bill,” a law that forced transgender individuals to use the restroom corresponding to their gender assigned at birth. She was an outspoken opponent of the bill and filed a lawsuit in 2016 arguing it was unconstitutional.

Hunter would go on to become a youth ambassador for GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer media advocacy organization. She also joined the Human Rights Campaign’s Youth Ambassadors Program to work on social justice initiatives and support LGBTQ+ youth around the country.

Through her tireless activism, Hunter became an inspiration for many young people wanting to make their voice heard in the fight for equality. Her positive impact on society continues today in everything she does—on stage, on television and beyond.

Hunter Schafer’s Writing and Directing Projects

Before Hunter Schafer found fame in “Euphoria”, she was already writing, directing and producing short films. She wrote and directed a short movie called “Moth” in 2014 and also wrote and starred in a short film directed by friend Toby Halbrooks called “A Shell is Easily cracked”.

In 2015, she wrote and directed the music video for local band Tancred’s single, “Control Me”. It follows a young girl who is dancing to her own rhythm—despite those around her trying to control her. It’s a perfect example of how Hunter is able to showcase the power of dance to tell stories that are often not fully explored—human relationships, identity, trauma and much more.

Finally in 2017, Hunter directed a music video for SOFI TUKKER’s song “Awoo”. The video depicted her art installation made from balloons that transform into various shapes as the night sets in. Again, it’s another example of how she uses visuals to tell stories that show what it means to be an individual in the world today.

Schlafly Beer Names a Beer After Hunter Schafer

Before ‘Euphoria’ made Hunter Schafer an international star, Schlafly Beer recognized her contributions to the St. Louis arts scene and named a beer after her. The “Hunter” Satin Saison is an homage to her creativity, stunning grace and fearless ambition.

Made with wheat and pale malt from France, the “Hunter” Satin Saison is a light, slightly sweet beer with floral hints of rosemary and orange blossom. It’s a perfect fit for Hunter Schafer—light, refreshing, and full of flavor. Schlafly Beer has even donated a portion of the proceeds from sales to local charity organizations in recognition of Hunter’s support for social justice causes.

This is just one example of how St. Louis has embraced Hunter Schafer before she was known around the world. From naming streets after her to honoring her work with restaurants and beers, it’s clear that she has been an inspiration to many people in this city since long before she became famous!

Conclusion

Schafer is a transgender activist, who was born female but identifies as male. He has a large social media following of young people who look up to him as a role model.

When Schafer was younger, he struggled with his gender identity and felt like he didn’t fit in with either gender. He started to transition at the age of 16, and has been an advocate for transgender rights ever since.
