The conference is organized every two years by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division.
The last conference was in 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand and the next one will be in 2019 in New York City, United States.
Membership is open to all Member States of the United Nations and its specialized agencies, as well as non-member States having special observer status with the General Assembly.
Member States not represented at the Conference may do so by sending written comments to the Secretariat before or after the Conference.
