If you’ve tried one of the recent vapes from Geek Bar, you may have noticed a new feature that wasn’t in the first generation of vapes from this brand: a switch on the bottom of the device. This could come as a bit of a surprise if you’ve only ever used simpler vapes without any configuration options. So, what’s the switch on the bottom of a Geek Bar, and what does it do?
Recent Geek Bars with switches on the bottom include the Geek Bar Pulse, the Geek Bar Pulse X and the Geek Bar Skyview, and the functions of the switch vary slightly depending on which device you have.
- The switch always adjusts the Geek Bar’s airflow.
- The switch also turns the Geek Bar on and off.
- The switch may change the Geek Bar’s vaping mode.
If you’ve only ever used simpler disposable vapes without any configuration options, you’re going to love that little switch on the bottom of your Geek Bar because it gives your device a level of flexibility that you’d normally only expect from more expensive types of vapes.
The Geek Bar Pulse was Geek Bar’s first vape with a switch on the bottom, and every new vape that the company has released since then has had the same feature. In this guide, we’ll explain what the switch on a Geek Bar does and how to use it.
The Switch Changes the Airflow
Every Geek Bar with a switch on the bottom has adjustable airflow, and that’s the primary purpose of the switch. People who vape tend to have very individual preferences when it comes to how tight or loose a vaping device’s draw should be. Without adjustable airflow, though, you’re stuck with your device’s default setting. If it’s tighter or looser than you prefer, you may not enjoy using the device at all. Having adjustable airflow resolves that problem by making it possible for you to customize the draw to your exact specification.
The airflow switch works by covering or opening the airflow holes on the bottom of the Geek Bar. When the switch is fully open, the maximum amount of air can travel through the device. This promotes the formation of bigger clouds, and it can also enable you to vape in the direct-to-lung style if that’s what you prefer.
The Switch Turns Your Geek Bar On and Off
In addition to adjusting the airflow, the second function of the switch on the bottom of a Geek Bar is that it turns the device on and off. You probably noticed that already when you unboxed the device for the first time, because the switch is in the “Close” position when the Geek Bar is still in its original pouch. You need to move the switch in order to turn the device on and start using it.
What you may not have realized, though, is that you can always turn the Geek Bar off again by returning the switch to that position. That feature is actually extremely useful for two reasons.
- You can turn your Geek Bar off when you aren’t using it. That’s useful for ensuring that the device won’t activate inadvertently while you’re carrying it in your pocket.
- The ability to turn your Geek Bar off and back on may also be useful as a troubleshooting step. If your device ever isn’t working normally, you can use the switch to reset it. That may resolve the problem.
The Switch May Change the Vaping Mode
If you have a Geek Bar Pulse or Pulse X, the switch on the bottom also changes the vaping mode. The Geek Bar Skyview handles this function a little differently, though, and we’ll discuss that in a moment.
The Geek Bar Pulse was the first device from Geek Bar to offer multiple modes, which was made possible by the fact that it had two atomizer coils rather than one. All subsequent Geek Bar models have had the same design.
- When the switch is in the “Close” position, the Geek Bar is turned off as we explained above.
- When the switch is in the middle position, the Geek Bar uses the standard single-coil vaping mode. When it’s in this mode, the Geek Bar toggles between the first and second coils each time you puff on it. The Geek Bar Pulse lasts up to 15,000 puffs in this mode, and the Geek Bar Pulse X lasts up to 25,000 puffs.
- When the switch is in the “Pulse” position, the Geek Bar is in Pulse Mode. This means that both coils are active simultaneously, so the device’s vapor production is essentially doubled. Pulse Mode allows you to get a stronger and more satisfying puff whenever you need it, whether it’s all of the time or just occasionally. The Geek Bar Pulse lasts up to 7,500 puffs in Pulse Mode, and the Geek Bar Pulse X lasts up to 15,000 puffs.
Even if you only use your Geek Bar Pulse in the single-coil mode, the fact that it has a dual-coil setup benefits the flavor quality because many Geek Bar flavors are very sweet. Geek Bar and other vape manufacturers use the low-calorie sweetener sucralose in their sweet flavors – and although it tastes great, it leaves residue that eventually causes a vape coil to produce a smoky flavor. Since the Geek Bar divides the residue between the two coils, it helps to ensure that the flavor will still be great even when you’re beginning to reach the end of the e-liquid supply.
The Geek Bar Skyview shares the dual-coil design of the Geek Bar Pulse and Pulse X, but it has a separate button on the bottom that allows you to switch between modes. This means that you can adjust the device’s mode and airflow independently, which is one reason why the Skyview may one day take over as Geek Bar’s most popular device. Also, while the Pulse and Pulse X offer only two vaping modes, the Skyview has three. Using the button toggles the device between power levels of 12, 18 and 25 watts.
